International Symposium on “Globalization: Challenges for Translators and Interpreters” was held in Zhuhai Campus, Jinan University from 6th to 8th of December, 2013. The symposium was co-hosted by the school of translation of Jinan University, School of Foreign Language of Jinan University, Newcastle University, and University of Salford. Professor Ping Hong, dean of SITS, and professor Mu Lei from the center, together with the teachers and students from SITS, Faculty of English Language and Culture, Center for Foreign Literature and Culture of GDUFS, attended the symposium.
The symposium consisted of keynote speeches and group discussion. In keynote speech session, Roberto Valde?n, Henrik Gottlieb, Myriam Salama-Carr, Saihong Li, Sun Yifeng, Meifang Zhang, Wang Dongfeng, Mu Lei, and Lin Wei delivered their speeches, covering news translation, subtitles translation, globalization and translation, translation teaching, language service industry and translation of terminology.
The group discussion session mainly focused on the following 7 topics: theoretical development, non-literature translation, translation on classics, translation teaching, interpretation, linguistics and translation and the theoretical and applied research of translation and interpretation in multi-perspectives.
The symposium witnessed more than 200 participants from various places, including the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Macao, Denmark, England, Span and so on, which gave an expression of the symposium as an international symposium.
