Seminar on Translation Studies (Report One)

A seminar on translation studies was held in the Center for Translation Studies, on 11th September. Present at the seminar were: Professor HUANG Zhonglian, Professor LI Ruilin,Professor ZHANG Baohong and Professor LONG Haiping. PhD candidates, post-doctoral research fellows, visiting scholars and graduate students also attended the seminar.During the four-hour event, participants shared their opinions on various topics of translation studies and the seminar attained the desired effect. In the beginning, Professor HUANG Zhonglian delivered a lecture entitled Teacheras a Grindstone: On Training Mechanism Underlying Academic Research and Planning of Academic Career. By way of examples, he expounded the importance of academic planning, furnishing the listeners with a road map for the academic research, from which all participants benefited immensely.  

 

Post-doctoral research fellow ZHU Linghui presented her recent research findings A New Approach to Translation History. Post-doctoral research fellow GU Junling made some critical comments regarding Translation Studies: A Critical Perspective. PhD candidate YANG Rongguang made a presentation entitled On Translation Ethics.Visiting scholar ZHANG Bo delivered a speech Rethinking the OrganizationStructure of Ancient Chinese Translation Forum. Visiting scholar CHEN Daiqiu presented Handling of Adjectivesand Subjective Expressions in Chinese Landscape Descriptions in C-E Translation.

 

After their presentations, the professors and other participants offered valuable advice. Through the discussion, all participants deepened their understanding on how to conduct research and how to improve their academic writing skills.
